Scam calls: Scam Calls: Sometimes, you might get a call from someone who says they work for Amazon. They’ll start asking for your personal information. They might tell you there’s a problem with your account, like it’s been frozen because of money issues. But remember, Amazon won’t do this. They already have all the info they need about you. If someone’s asking for your details, it’s probably a scam. Hang up the phone or don’t answer the message. Then, you can contact Amazon’s customer service to check and report any problems.

Fake Websites: This isn’t just about Amazon. There are lots of fake websites out there. Always make sure you’re on the right website, especially when it involves money. Check the website address (URL) carefully. For example, let’s look at Amazon’s UK homepage.

In the blue box is the URL ( web address) you can see this is the UK one. There is no nonsense. It says Amazon.co. uk. No other bits, just a simple address. The same happens for the USA. That is Amazon.com, Canada is Amazon.ca and so on.

Any email you get from Amazon will relate to the website in your country with the similar web address for the country you are in. If you click on an email offer they have sent you it will be to the address of your countries version of Amazon (.co.uk etc). It won’t be to some strange version of it like amazonofferbenefits.co.uk or getuamazon.co.uk or any of the thousand variations scammers pick up and put on false scammy communications.

When it comes to text messages from Amazon, why would they text you anything other than a verification code that you have asked for?

If you do find yourself in some loop and have people from Amazon talking to you, and you are not sure if they are legitimate, stop chatting to them. Go to you official website, so amazon.co.uk or .com etc and go through your account from there. Never use links in emails or texts or any chat over the phone to operate your account.

Always be on alert when shopping with anyone online.

Red Flags: Scammers sometimes pretend to be from Amazon and try to trick you into giving them your account and credit card information. Remember, if anyone asks for your financial info, it’s a scam. You should only enter your credit card details on Amazon’s website, in your account section. If they can’t get your credit or bank details, they might try to get you to buy other things, like gift cards, and send them to the scammer.

If someone who says they’re from Amazon asks you to buy gift cards, they’re not really from Amazon. Also, Amazon won’t ask you to buy anything else. Why would they? Amazon is a huge company making lots of money – we’re talking hundreds of billions each year. If there’s a problem with your account, they don’t need their own gift cards to fix it.

Be careful with fake reviews on Amazon. Some sellers put up fake, old reviews or sell “mystery box” items that are just cheap stuff not worth the money.

We use Amazon because it’s a great, easy way to find things you can’t usually get in most towns. But, we don’t buy expensive stuff from them. We only buy pricier items if we’ve seen them in person, and we’re careful about where our packages are left when they’re delivered.
